SEND Information Report

Middleton Technology School

Reviewed: September 2025
Next review: September 2026

At Middleton Technology School, we believe that every child should be supported to feel safe, included and able to succeed. This SEND Information Report explains how we support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and how our SEND policy is put into practice.

How does the school know if my child needs extra support?

We identify SEND in a number of ways, including:

  • Information from primary schools during transition
  • Concerns raised by parents/carers, teachers or the pupil
  • Progress and attainment information
  • Observations of learning, behaviour or wellbeing
  • Advice from external professionals

Early identification is important, and concerns are discussed with parents/carers as soon as possible.

How will the school support my child?

Support for pupils with SEND is tailored to individual needs and may include:

  • High‑quality classroom teaching with appropriate adjustments
  • Small‑group or one‑to‑one support
  • In‑class support from trained staff
  • Support with organisation, confidence or emotional wellbeing
  • Reasonable adjustments to lessons, resources or assessments

Support is reviewed regularly to make sure it is effective.

How will my child’s progress be monitored?

Your child’s progress will be monitored through:

  • Regular teacher assessment and feedback
  • Review meetings with parents/carers
  • Monitoring of attendance, behaviour and wellbeing
  • Individual support plans where appropriate

We use this information to adapt support and ensure progress continues.

How will staff know how to support my child?

All staff receive training in:

  • Inclusive classroom practice
  • Differentiation and reasonable adjustments
  • Supporting pupils with additional needs, including SEND and SEMH

Specialist advice or training is accessed where needed.

How does the school support emotional wellbeing and mental health?

We recognise that wellbeing is essential to learning. Support may include:

  • Access to pastoral staff
  • Small‑group or individual interventions
  • Working with external services where appropriate

How is the curriculum and school environment adapted?

The school makes reasonable adjustments to ensure pupils can access learning, which may include:

  • Adapted teaching and resources
  • Assistive technology
  • Modified timetables where needed

How are parents/carers involved?

We work in partnership with parents/carers by:

  • Communicating regularly about progress and support
  • Involving parents/carers in reviews and planning
  • Listening to concerns and working together to find solutions

Parents/carers are encouraged to contact the school at any time if they have concerns.

How are pupils involved in decisions about their support?

Pupils are encouraged to:

  • Share their views about what helps them learn
  • Take part in review discussions
  • Set goals and reflect on their progress

We believe pupil voice is vital.

How does the school work with external professionals?

When appropriate, we work with professionals such as:

  • Educational psychologists
  • Health services
  • Local Authority SEND services

Advice is used to support planning and decision‑making.

How does the school support transitions?

ow to Ask for Advice or Raise a Concern About SEND

We encourage parents and carers to talk to us as early as possible if they have questions, concerns or would like advice about their child’s SEND support.

Seeking Advice or Support

In the first instance, parents/carers should contact:

  • The SENDCo to discuss SEND provision, support strategies or progress
  • The child’s form tutor or Head of Year for day‑to‑day concerns

We value open communication and aim to work in partnership to resolve concerns quickly and positively.

Making a Complaint

If concerns cannot be resolved informally, parents/carers may follow the school’s Complaints Procedure, which is available on the school website or from the school office. Complaints should be made in writing and will be handled fairly, confidentially and in line with published timescales.

Further Support and Advice

Parents/carers can also seek independent advice from:

  • SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)
  • The Local Authority SEND Team

Contact details for these services can be found on the Local Authority website.

Middleton Technology School is committed to working collaboratively with families to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils with SEND.
